Garden Boot Company

I rebuilt The Garden Boot Company's website and took over their digital presence, turning zero website inquiries into 11 in the same seven week period, just in time for their busy season.

The Challenge

Money spent, nothing delivered

The Garden Boot Company had already been through a few freelancers and agencies before they came to me. Money had been spent, promises had been made, and the result was a website that didn’t reflect the standard of work they actually do.

The real cost showed up in their off-peak season. Over a seven week stretch the previous year, the website produced zero enquiries. Not a slow trickle, none at all. They were relying entirely on word of mouth and other channels to bring in new clients, with their own website doing nothing to help.

What I Did

A rebuild, then ongoing support

I rebuilt the website from the ground up: a modern, mobile-responsive site designed with one job in mind, turning visitors into enquiries. Alongside the rebuild, I took over management of their Google Business Profile and social media accounts, so their presence stayed consistent and active without it falling on Dan and the team to manage on top of running the business.

How I Got There

Some of the thinking behind the decisions

A few of the calls I made on this project, and why, in plain terms rather than technical ones.

01
People hire a gardener with their eyes first

Before someone reads a single word about pricing or services, they’re judging whether this business looks like it does tidy, careful work. I built the homepage around real photos of finished gardens, front and centre, because that’s what actually earns trust with this kind of customer. The words come second.

02
Every extra click is a chance to lose someone

The old site had a phone number here, an email there, a contact page buried in a menu. I put a single, simple enquiry form in the place someone’s eye naturally lands. Fewer decisions for the visitor to make means more of them actually get in touch instead of meaning to and forgetting.

03
Most people aren't searching for a gardener on a laptop

Someone looking for garden maintenance is far more likely to be searching on their phone, often while standing in their own garden looking at the problem. I designed for that screen first, then scaled up, rather than the more common approach of designing for desktop and hoping mobile holds together.

04
For a local business, Google often is the website

A lot of people searching for a local gardener never click through to a website at all, they call straight from the Google listing. I treated the profile, the reviews and the website as one connected presence rather than three separate things competing for attention, so wherever someone finds them, the impression is consistent.
